Leaving a Gift in your Will

Receiving a legacy donation has helped the Northamptonshire Branch tremendously over the years and has even enabled us to build our very first cattery. These gifts are as vital as ever and enable us to provide the best accommodation for our animals and helps us to cover the ever increasing cost of veterinary treatment and care.

How to leave a gift in your will

Firstly, we’d like to say thank you for considering leaving a gift to us in your will. Both the team and the animals in our care are eternally grateful for your generosity. We understand that it can be complicated when deciding to make this decision, so here are some basic guidelines that maybe able to help you:

1. State in your will that you would like to leave a gift to us
We always suggest seeking the advice of a solicitor or professional will writer/will writing service to ensure that your will is both legal and valid.

2. Include our full name and charity number
This will ensure the donation will come to the right place: RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch, registered charity number 205377.

3. If you have made a donation in your will to us
Thank you – your donation is greatly appreciated. Please get in touch with us if you wish so we can thank you personally.

How to make a will or amend an existing will

We always recommend that you seek professional advice from a legal advisor or solicitor when making this decision. It could be useful to make a list of your assets and a list of the people, causes or charities that you wish to leave something to. A legal advisor will then go through all of your assets with you, recording how you wish them to be split.

How do I word my will?

It is very important to us the correct wording in your will to ensure that your donation goes to the right place. We advise that you use the below wording so any donation will come to the branch:

I give the sum of £ (specify) to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Northamptonshire Branch, Mill Cottage, Creaton Road, Brixworth, Northamptonshire, NN6 9BW (registered charity number: 205377), for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the Northamptonshire Branch shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

All donations and legacies that are received are spent by the branch, so your money will help animals within the Northamptonshire area. Your donation could help with veterinary costs and treatments for animals, food, care or even a capital project (such as the build of our Hope Cattery). If you would like to request your gift to be used for a specific reason, please ask your legal advisor to outline this in your will.

Thank you for considering leaving a gift to us in your will, it is greatly appreciated! We always advise seeking professional advice, whether that’s for a new will or amending an existing one. Please contact us for further information.

You are always able to change your mind; it is your choice as to who you wish to leave a gift to in your will. If you no longer wish to leave us a donation in your will, please seek the advise of a legal professional for assistance with this.
